Improving your images with PS Actions

How to improve your images using Lightroom Pre-sets and Photoshop Actions

There is a fine line between improving an image and outright manipulation when retouching. The overuse of Photoshop when editing can go overboard and ruin an otherwise perfect image. When retouching a fashion editorial that I shoot, I focus on the theme and mood which then dictates how I improve the background, style and character of the image - the kind of retouching that does not alter the reality.

To bring out the details in the key elements of the two editorial images that I want the viewer to focus on - City Girls In the Country Side Image (1)- I used the MCP Actions All in the Details Photoshop Actions Set. Within this action set, I used two actions: Details - (Soft Color) and Flashlight (Shadow lightning). My goal was to bring out the details in the designer’s dresses and the surroundings of the models. The action sets brightened up and softened the image.

In Image (2), I used the MCP Actions All in the Details Photoshop Actions Set. Within this action set, I used two actions: Details (Color) and Dusty (Hi Res Brown Vignette). Here, my goal was to heighten the details of the model being in the countryside enjoying nature with the flowers in her hand, her dress and flower in her hair, giving a dusty and slightly darker feel to the image.

The models are in the countryside, hanging out and enjoying the beauty of nature in their beautiful and colorful dresses.
